Golden Bay Beach is the crown jewel of Malta’s Manikata region. As one of the cleanest and most pristine beaches in Malta—yep, it’s rocking that Blue Flag status—you can count on sparkling waters and an unspoiled coastline to welcome you.

This wide cove, framed by rocky headlands, offers a combo of orange-gold sand and deep-blue Mediterranean waves. You can lounge on the softest sand the island has to offer or scope out the water sports on tap.

Speaking of water sports, you can go jet skiing, paddleboarding, kayaking, or diving. We also recommend hopping on a boat ride with a local operator.

Traveling with little ones? Well, this beach is super family-friendly with easy access points that make getting in and out a breeze, even with strollers in tow. Plus, the shallow waters and calm waves make it a safe spot for kids to play!

Pro Tip:
When hunger strikes, you’re sorted. Golden Bay Beach has a handful of restaurants and bars serving up delicious food and refreshing drinks all day long so, grab a bite, sip a cocktail, and enjoy the unbeatable views!

We think the Blue Lagoon on Comino Island is hands down Malta’s ultimate swimming spot. Dubbed “paradise on earth,” it’s the kind of place that feels straight out of a postcard—in fact, films like Troy and Count of Monte Cristo have been set here.

Fun fact: Comino is named after a wild herb that grows around the island, which is—you guessed it—cumin, and it fills the air with a spicy-sweet aroma.

And the water is so pure it practically invites you in for a swim, a snorkel, or even a full-on scuba adventure.

Getting to this dreamy spot is also half the fun, thanks to the regular taxi boats that shuttle visitors from Malta to Comino in just 15 minutes.

Pro Tip:
If you want to experience the Blue Lagoon at its most magical, head out early to beat the crowds. You’ll have the place (almost) to yourself and can snap those dreamy shots of the shimmering waters before everyone else arrives.

Għajn Tuffieħa Bay

Nestled along Malta’s breathtaking northwest coast, Għajn Tuffieħa Bay—aka “Apple’s Eye”—is as dreamy as its name suggests. With its stunning sea views, it’s the kind of spot that’ll steal your heart the moment you see it (it definitely stole mine!).

While it shares its Blue Flag status and soft butterscotch-colored sands with its popular neighbor, Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa is the quieter sibling. It’s ideal for those who prefer their beach days a little more chill and secluded.

And for an added bonus? There’s a swing overlooking the sea that’s perfect for snapping those “wow” photos for your socials.

Going to this slice of paradise does take a bit of effort—it’s not wheelchair-accessible, and you’ll need to conquer a staircase of 200 steps to reach the sand. But hey, consider it your pre-beach workout!

Pro Tip:
At the foot of the staircase, you’ll find Singita Miracle Beach, a cozy café where you can grab a bite or a refreshing drink. They also rent out chairs, so you can kick back and soak in those golden Mediterranean vibes in total comfort.

Ramla Beach

For us, Ramla Bay—affectionately known as the “Red Beach” in Maltese—is one of Malta’s best family-friendly spots. Classified as a Natura 2000 site, it’s not just a pretty face; this beach is home to rare, ecologically important sand dunes.

To go here, simply hop on a bus or drive over—it’s about 90 minutes from Valletta, including a scenic 25-minute ferry ride to Gozo.

Once you arrive, you’ll see a wide stretch of sandy goodness, surrounded by clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It also has sun loungers, parasols, and public bathrooms, plus a restaurant that rents out umbrellas and sunbeds.

Don’t forget to look up! The terraced walls built by local farmers create a picturesque patchwork quilt effect—it’s like something out of a storybook.

Pro Tip:
After Ramla Beach, why not explore the nearby caves? Tal-Mixta Cave offers jaw-dropping views, and there’s Calypso Cave, said to be the inspiration for Homer’s Odyssey, where the nymph Calypso is believed to have kept Odysseus captive.

St. Peter’s Pool

St. Peter’s Pool is tucked away at the tip of Delimara Point near Marsaxlokk Bay—just follow the rough track and look for the sign. The reward? A jaw-dropping view of crystal-clear blue-green waters.

This natural pool is a favorite among locals and tourists for good reason. Dive into the refreshing water straight from the smooth rock edges or take a gentler approach via one of the ladders—it’s up to you!

The large flat rocks surrounding the pool double as a sunbathing haven. And snorkelers, you’re in for a treat—the water here is perfect for spotting fish and exploring underwater nooks and crannies.

While there’s a small kiosk selling snacks and drinks, don’t expect the usual beach extras like sunbeds, parasols, or restrooms.

Pro Tip:
After your swim, we suggest visiting the charming fishing village of Marsaxlokk. The harbor, filled with brightly painted Maltese fishing boats (called luzzus), is a feast for the eyes, and the palm-lined waterfront is packed with cozy cafes and bars.

Mellieħa Bay

Mellieħa Bay, Malta’s largest sandy beach, is a true crowd-pleaser and a Blue Flag gem where cleanliness and top-notch services are always on point.

The bay is cleverly divided into three sections by rocky outcrops. The middle part is where all the action happens, while the sides offer more chilled-out vibes for those who just want to unwind.

Thanks to a reliable northeasterly breeze, this spot is ideal for wind-based sports. With activities like windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing, canoeing, banana boating, and parasailing, there’s no shortage of ways to get your splash on.

With 50 meters of shallow, gently sloping water, we believe it’s also one of the safest and most family-friendly beaches on the island. There are also plenty of kiosks serving up drinks and snacks to keep you fueled for your beach day.

Pro Tip:
Take some time to explore the charming old town of Mellieħa, perched on the hill above the bay—about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus ride. Check out the Parish Church, or visit the Red Tower (St. Agatha’s Tower), a pinkish 17th-century fortress.

St. George’s Bay

St. George’s Bay is the perfect beach escape right in the heart of Malta’s bustling nightlife district, Paceville. Just a short stroll from the action, this beach strikes a perfect balance between seaside relaxation and urban energy.

The calm, crystal-clear waters are made for swimming, so take a dip or just float your worries away. The shore is also lined with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas, making it easy to kick back and soak up the Mediterranean rays.

Safety’s a priority here, too, with lifeguards on duty during peak hours in the summer months (unlike other secluded beaches).

When hunger strikes or you need to cool off, there’s a kiosk selling ice cream, sodas, and water right on the beach. For something more substantial, the bay has you covered with a variety of restaurants, snack bars, and shops just steps away.

Pro Tip:
We recommend signing up for a one-day dive with one of St. George’s two dive schools. They offer exciting underwater excursions to explore Malta’s famous dive sites, known for their dramatic drop-offs and unbelievably clear waters.

Nestled near Mġarr, Ġnejna Bay is one of Malta’s best-kept secrets. This serene beach is for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle, and it’s famous for its striking orange sands and dramatic clay slopes.

After a steep (but rewarding!) descent, you’ll find yourself surrounded by tranquil waters and stunning views. You can lay down your towel on the silky soft sand or pick a spot on the limestone slabs.

The gentle, crystal-clear waters beckon swimmers of all levels, while thrill-seekers can rent paddle boats, kayaks, water skis, or even stand-up paddleboards.

For underwater explorers, this beach hides a secret. Just beneath the surface lies the Dornier Wal XI, a World War II plane wreck resting at about 16 feet deep—a beginner-friendly dive that doesn’t even require scuba gear, just a snorkel and mask!

Pro Tip:
If you’re up for a land-based adventure, don’t miss the short hike to Lippija Tower. This former military fort, designed by Vincenzo Maculani, offers sweeping views of the bay and beyond, which we love.

Imġiebaħ Beach

Tucked away on Malta’s northeastern coast is Imġiebaħ Beach, also known as Selmun Beach. This charming horseshoe-shaped bay is a peaceful retreat—mostly frequented by locals—and it’s a pebble beach, so be sure to bring comfy footwear.

If you’re planning a day here, we recommend packing a picnic and plenty of water, as amenities are minimal! The beach is also ideal for camping, barbecuing, or even hosting a laid-back gathering with friends.

Dog lovers, rejoice! This spot is as welcoming to your furry companions as it is to you. With plenty of space to roam and sniff, your pup will be in doggy paradise.

On a sizzling summer day, it also provides a refreshing break from the heat. The rocky left side of the beach offers natural shade, thanks to the limestone rock formations, making it a cool hideaway for those who prefer to skip the sunblock.

Pro Tip:
The surrounding area of Imġiebaħ Beach is a hiker’s dream, so don’t forget your sturdy walking shoes if you fancy a scenic trek.

Thanks to the beach’s gradual pebbly slope, stepping into the sea is easy and inviting. Bring along your snorkeling gear—you won’t regret exploring the underwater serenity of this tranquil bay.

The rugged coastline around Mistra Bay holds plenty of secrets for curious explorers. Dotted with quirky caves, these natural wonders once served as lookout points, shelters for fishermen, and even ancient burial sites.

Just a short hike away, you’ll find Mistra Battery, an 18th-century fortification perched on a nearby hill. There’s also a tiny alcove bursting with diverse plant species.

Pro Tip:
When you’ve had your fill of swimming, treat yourself to a meal at Margo’s, a charming pizzeria right by the beach. Indulge in a plate of antipasti or a delicious pizza topped with homegrown herbs!

Għadira Bay is Malta’s superstar of beaches and for good reason! It’s the island’s largest and most popular beach, located on the northern coast.

Rows of bright parasols dot the sandy shore, inviting you to sink into a sun lounger and unwind. Rentals for sunbeds and umbrellas also make it easy to settle in for the day, and there are convenient amenities like showers and bathrooms.

The calm waters are perfect for a relaxing swim, but if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s no shortage of water sports to try. Kayaking, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding are just a few of the fun options waiting for you.

Nature lovers will love the Għadira Nature Reserve just behind the beach. Visit during spring, and you might even spot a beautiful coral-plumed greater flamingo—an Instagram-worthy moment if there ever was one!

Pro Tip:
When hunger strikes, you’re spoiled for choice. Snack on simple beachside staples like burgers and chips, or head to Munchies, a nearby local spot serving up delicious Mediterranean dishes!

Fun fact: Buġibba is a proud recipient of the Blue Flag, awarded in both 2011 and 2012 for its cleanliness and excellent facilities.

This beach has everything you could need for a perfect day out. Surrounding the shore, you’ll find water sports for hire, bustling cafes, bars, restaurants, and stores selling everything from souvenirs to essentials you might’ve forgotten.

One of the biggest highlights is the inflatable Quattro Water Park, located about 320 feet from the shoreline. Swim out to this floating playground and enjoy giant slides, bouncing obstacle courses, and endless laughs—it’s a hit with kids and grown-ups alike!

Pro Tip:
Reserve a table at Nine Lives, a chic venue overlooking the beach, and go for their decadent shellfish platter, piled high with braised octopus, mussels, shrimp, deep-fried calamari, and langoustine. For something lighter, try their zesty ceviches!

Paradise Bay is a lovely little hideaway offering breathtaking views of Comino and its iconic tower. This perfectly formed cove, with its soft fawn-colored sand, feels like a slice of heaven tucked away from the island’s busier beaches.

Located about 18 miles from Valletta and near the Gozo ferry terminal, it’s easy to reach yet retains its laid-back, secluded charm.

One of the beach’s most appealing features is its simplicity. Facilities are minimal here, but you can still grab a soda or a creamy ice cream from the café by the beach and settle into the soft sand with a good book or your favorite playlist.

For a more indulgent experience, we suggest heading to The Beach at Paradise Bay, a lovely alfresco dining spot. Pair a crisp glass of Maltese white wine with fresh Mediterranean dishes like grilled fish, salads, or pasta.

Pro Tip:
If you’re an experienced diver, consider exploring the P29 wreck, a scuttled minesweeper turned dive site located just off Ċirkewwa harbor. It’s only less than a mile from Paradise Bay!

To get here from Valletta, you can hop on the number 22 bus or grab a taxi for a short, scenic ride. Once there, you’ll see clear, inviting waters with a silvery sandy bed—great for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

The smooth, flat rocks surrounding the bay are perfect for sunbathing, so bring a towel to lounge on the sand since sun loungers and parasols aren’t available here.

Just steps from St. Julian’s promenade, the area is surrounded by a variety of excellent restaurants and refreshment kiosks. You can grab a bite, a cold drink, or even some snacks to enjoy by the water.
